COL BKB: Kansas 84, Texas 74

KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 16 (UPI) -- Mario Chalmers scored 30 points to lead No. 5 Kansas past No. 8 Texas 84-74 in the Big 12 Tournament title game in Kansas City.

The nip and tuck battle saw Kansas finishing the contest on a 14-3 run to beat the Longhorns for the second straight season in the title game.

The Jayhawks went ahead for good when Darrell Arthur's jumper gave them a 72-71 lead with 4:13 remaining.

Brandon Rush scored 19 points with six assists, six rebounds and three blocked shots.

Arthur had 16 points and nine rebounds, while Sherron Collins had nine points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Jayhawks (31-3), who have won the tournament final six times in 12 opportunities.

D.J. Augustin led Texas with 20 points and nine assists.

Justin Mason had 17 points, five assists and five rebounds and Damion James added 13 points and six rebounds for the top-seeded Longhorns (28-6), who sank to 0-5 in title game appearances.
