INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 15 (UPI) -- French Open champ Rafael Nadal and Australian Open champ Novak Djokovic were second-round winners Saturday at the $3.6 million Pacific Life Open.
Nadal beat Djokovic in last year's Indian Wells finale.
The second-seeded Nadal won his seventh straight match at this event by beating Colombian qualifier Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 6-3, and the third-seeded Djokovic beat Italian Andreas Seppi 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Fifth-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer, the 2007 Tennis Masters Cup runner-up, beat Belgian Olivier Rochus 6-2, 6-2.
Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland upset Czech Tomas Berdych 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
Eighth-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet defeated Swede Robin Soderling 6-3, 6-2.
World No. 1 and three-time Indian Wellschampion Roger Federer, former top-ranked Andy Roddick and another former No. 1, Lleyton Hewitt, a two-time champion, will all play their second-round matches Sunday.
