NHL: Buffalo 6, Toronto 2

TORONTO, March 15 (UPI) -- Buffalo scored three times in the first and third periods Saturday in a 6-2 rout of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Sabres led 3-1 after the first and the same scoring output was recorded by both teams in the third.

Both Jason Pominville and Jochen Hecht had one goal and two assists.

Ales Kotalik, Daniel Paille, Drew Stafford, and Henrik Tallinder (empty net in the third) also scored.

Paul Gaustad had two assists and goaltender Ryan Miller stopped 30 of 32 shots for the Sabres, who with 79 points moved within one point of Philadelphia for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Toronto got one goal each from Jiri Tlusty and Ian White.

Vesa Toskala was beaten five times on 19 shots for the Maple Leafs, who had won their previous two games.
