SUNRISE, Fla., March 14 (UPI) -- Olli Jokinen put Florida in front 7:12 into the third period Friday and the Panthers held on to down the New York Rangers 3-2.
Florida won its sixth straight and moved to within three points of Philadelphia for the last playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.
Jassen Cullimore had a goal and an assist while Rostislav Olesz scored for the Panthers. Tomas Vokoun made 32 saves.
New York lost a game in regulation for the first time since Feb. 7. Since then, the Rangers had 10 victories and three overtime losses.
Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves for New York, which is clinging to sixth place in the East.
Florida took the lead in the third period while on the power play. Lundqvist was able to save a blast from the point by Steve Montador, but Jokinen was there to grab the rebound and tap it home.
