MIAMI, March 13 (UPI) -- Washington Redskins defensive back Sean Taylor's generosity with his money may have led to a botched robbery and his own death, Miami police investigators said.
Jason Mitchell, one of four men charged with killing the Redskins star last year, told Miami-Dade County detectives of two incidents that convinced him and his confederates that Taylor was a rich man.
In sworn testimony released Wednesday, he said Taylor gave wads of cash -- $10,000 each – to his sister Sasha and brother Jamal which they flashed in front of friends during Sasha's September birthday party.
Mitchell said Taylor gave him $300 in 50s for helping mow his lawn, the Miami Herald reported.
Two months later, Taylor, 24, was shot in the groin during an attempted home-invasion robbery. He died the next day.
The four suspects have pleaded not guilty. Police are looking for a fifth suspect.
