Loyola-Marymount coach resigns

LOS ANGELES, March 13 (UPI) -- Loyola-Marymount has launched a search for a men's basketball coach following the resignation of Rodney Tention.

Tention stepped down Wednesday after a 79-60 loss to San Francisco in the first round of the West Coast Conference Tournament ended the Lions' season with an overall record of 5-26.

"We would like to thank Rodney Tention and his staff for his commitment, outstanding efforts and we wish them the very best," LMU athletic director William Husak said in a brief statement.

"We didn't have the best of seasons, and we're looking to get better," Husak told the Los Angeles Times.

In three seasons at the Los Angeles-based school, Teniton's overall record was just 30-61 and each season ended with a losing record.

Before taking the LMU job, he spent eight years as an assistant under Arizona's Lute Olson.

Tention is the fifth WCC coach who has resigned or been fired since the end of the 2006-07 season.
