EDMONTON, Alberta, March 12 (UPI) -- Edmonton forged a three-goal lead Tuesday but wound up needing rookie Andrew Cogliano's record-setting overtime goal to ice a 4-3 victory over St. Louis.

It was Cogliano's third overtime goal in consecutive games over a five-day span. No NHL player had ever scored three straight overtime game-winners.

Another Edmonton rookie, Sam Gagner, scored a goal and added two assists. Zachery Stortini and Jarret Stoll also scored as the Oilers jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead.

Mathieu Garon made 20 saves in the win.

The Blues got their goals in the second period from Brad Boyes, Andy McDonald and Lee Stempniak. Manny Legace made 20 stops in a losing effort.
