NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 8 (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer had his second straight 6-under 65 Saturday to take the second-round lead of the seniors Toshiba Classic at Newport Beach, Calif.

Langer -- a two-time Masters champion -- finished 36 holes at 12-under 130, one stroke shy of the tournament record. He is three strokes ahead of first-round leader Tim Simpson (70), who is tied with Mark Johnson (69), Morris Hatalsky (64) and Jeff Sluman (65), at 9-under 133.

Langer trailed Simpson by two to start Saturday's second round.

Langer is looking for his second win on the Champions Tour Sunday. His only victory came at last year's Administaff Small Business Classic.

Defending champion Jay Haas (69), D.A. Weibring (68) and Keith Fergus (67) are tied for sixth at 8-under 134.

Gary McCord (67), Mike McCullough (68) and Ben Crenshaw (69) share ninth at 135.
