NHL: San Jose 6, Montreal 4

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 4 (UPI) -- Joe Thornton had two goals and two assists Monday night to lead the San Jose Sharks past Montreal 6-4.

Jonathan Cheechoo had a goal and two assists; Brian Campbell had a goal and one assist; and Patrick Marleau and Jody Shelley each scored a goal for the Sharks, who have won a season-high six straight games. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 27 shots.

Tomas Plekanec scored two goals, and Ryan O'Byrne and Maxim Lapierre each scored once for the Canadiens, who lost for the first time in four games and remain in first place in the Northeast Division following Ottawa's loss in Anaheim Monday.

Carey Price gave up six goals on 39 shots.

The Sharks led 4-3 in the third when Cheechoo scored an insurance goal at 3:25 of the stanza. The Canadiens fought back, making it 5-4 on Lapierre's goal less than a minute later.

Nabokov closed the door after that and the Sharks capped off the scoring with Campbell's power-play goal at 18:21 of the third.
