NHL: Buffalo 5, Philadelphia 2

PHILADELPHIA, March 4 (UPI) -- Maxim Afinogenov and Jason Pominville had two goals apiece Tuesday, powering the Buffalo Sabres to a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Afinogenov also carded an assist for the Sabres, who pulled within one point of the Flyers for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Steve Bernier and Henrik Tallinder had two assists each.

Tallinder left the game with a shoulder injury.

Ryan Miller stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn his 30th win of the season.

Steve Downie and Scottie Upshall scored for the Flyers, who suffered their first regulation loss since Feb. 21.

Philadelphia was 3

2 in its previous five games.

Martin Biron gave up five goals on 18 shots before being lifted in favor of Antero Niittymaki.
