

BANGALORE, India, March 4 (UPI) -- Seventh-seeded Vera Zvonareva survived a three-set match but No. 8-seeded Maria Kirilenko wasn't as lucky at the $600,000 Bangalore Open in India.
Zvonareva rallied sharply after losing the first set of her first-round match Tuesday, defeating Monica Niculescu 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Kirilenko broke her opponent's serve in the first game of the match, jumped out to a one-set lead over and had three match points in the second set but still fell to Zi Yan 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1.
In other first-round matches, Shuai Peng routed Anne Kremer 6-1, 6-2 and Anastassia Rodinova came from behind for a 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win.
Also advancing to the second round were Sanda Mamic, Olga Savchuk, Tzipora Obziler and Agnes Szatmari.
This year's Bangalore titlist will collect $95,500.
