LAS VEGAS, March 4 (UPI) -- Second-seed Lleyton Hewitt and fourth-seed Guillermo Canas won their first-round matches Monday at the Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas.
Hewitt easily beat Marat Safin 6-2, 6-1. Canas had a little tougher time in his match against Thomas Johansson, winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Eighth-seed Nicolas Kiefer eliminated Benjamin Becker 6-4, 6-3, and Robby Ginepri came back to beat Xavier Malisse 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Sam Querrey advanced with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8) win over Sebastien Grosjean, and Evgeny Korolev beat Sergio Roitman 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
First prize in the Tennis Channel Open is $68,800.
