
OTTAWA, March 1 (UPI) -- Daniel Alfredsson scored twice and assisted once Saturday when the Ottawa Senators downed the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4.
Alfredsson's 36th goal this season at 6:12 of the second period gave Ottawa a 2-1 advantage, and his 37th (shorthanded) at 1:30 of the second put Ottawa ahead 3-2.
He also had a hand on Dany Heatley's 31st (power play) at 16:12 of the second.
Alfredsson tied Chicago's Patrick Sharp with his seventh shorthanded goal this season.
Martin Lapointe's fourth (power play) at 14:40 of the second completed a three-goal outburst and Martin Gerber stopped 25 of 29 shots for the Senators, who snapped a three-game losing streak to forge a tie with Montreal atop the Northeast Division.
Pittsburgh got two goals from Ryan Malone and one each from Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora.
Malkin added two assists and Sykora one.
Ty Conklin was beaten five times after 30 Ottawa shots for the Penguins, who have split their last four contests.
