Browns QB Derek Anderson gets new deal

CLEVELAND, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Browns have signed quarterback Derek Anderson to a three-year contract, a report said Friday.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer said the deal is worth a maximum of $26 million, no less than $24 million with at least $13.5 million guaranteed.

The contract language must be finalized before the deal can be announced.

Anderson, who was eligible for free agent status, began the 2007 season as the backup to Charlie Frye, but became the starting signal-caller when Frye was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

Anderson started the season's final 15 games and nearly led the Browns to the playoffs in the AFC North Division in front of prized rookie Brady Quinn from Notre Dame.

He finished with a 56.5 completion percentage, going 298 for 527 for 3,787 yards with 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

His numbers were good enough to qualify for an AFC Pro Bowl spot.
