PISCATAWAY, N.J., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Rutgers head women's coach C. Vivian Stringer is now a member of college basketball's 800-win club. Stringer reached the plateau with the Scarlet Knights' 60-46 win over DePaul Wednesday.
She joined Tennessee's Pat Summitt, who is nearing the 950-win mark, and Jody Conradt, who retired as Texas coach last year after winning her 900th game, as the only women's coaches to win at least 800 games.
Only five men's coaches won at least 800 games. Bobby Knight is the all-time men's leader with 902, and Dean Smith, Jim Phelan, Adolph Rupp and Eddie Sutton all have at least 800 victories.
Stringer's overall record is 800-264.
"It's really not the number, I don't mean to dampen anyone's excitement because I really am proud, but it's not something I thought about," Stringer said.
"I don't remember a lot of milestones, I just appreciate that I have the opportunity to do something that few people can do, and that is to work with young people that affect their lives and to feel success every day."
