Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN ANTONIO, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Tim Duncan put San Antonio in front with 34 seconds remaining Thursday and the Spurs held on to defeat Dallas 97-94.
Duncan scored 31 points and had 15 rebounds in the Spurs' eighth straight victory. They lead New Orleans by a game in the Southwest Division.
Michael Finley added 16 points and Bruce Bowen had 14 along with a key block in the closing seconds.
The Mavericks, two games behind the Spurs, got 28 points from Dirk Nowitzki. Dallas had won its three previous games.
Duncan gave San Antonio a 96-94 lead with two free throws, after which Nowitzki missed two jump shots and Bowen rejected a floater by Jason Terry with five seconds remaining.
Dallas led by as many as 10 points in the third period.
