CALGARY, Alberta, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- The Colorado Avalanche escaped Calgary with a 3-2 win Tuesday, thanks to Paul Stastny's power-play goal 3:02 into overtime.
With Jarome Iginla in the penalty box for tripping, Stastny scored easily on Miikka Kiprusoff after receiving a blind backhand pass across the goal mouth from Ryan Smith. The Avalanche made it to overtime with a power-play goal by Milan Hejduk in the third period.
Smith also scored for the Avalanche. Jose Theodore turned aside 27 shots as Colorado won for the second time in its last three games.
Dustin Boyd and Robyn Regehr accounted for the Flames' goals. Kiprusoff made 31saves for Calgary, which had a four-game win streak ended.
Ahead of the trade deadline, the Avalanche obtained defenseman Adam Foote, who previously spent 13 seasons with the club, from Columbus and defenseman Ruslan Salei from the Florida Panthers. The Flames stood pat.
