Davenport reaches Memphis quarterfinals

MEMPHIS, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Lindsay Davenport, seeking her second title of the year, coasted into the quarterfinals Wednesday at the Morgan Keegan Championships.

Davenport, seeded fourth in this event, was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Evgeniya Rodina, setting up a meeting with Caroline Wozniacki. Davenport won her opening appearance of the year in New Zealand.

Wozniacki ousted Marina Erakovic in the second round Wednesday 6-2, 6-4.

Also advancing was third-seeded Shahar Peer, who outfought Melinda Czink 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. Qualifier Marina Erakovic also reached the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Amber Liu and Julia Goerges defeated Bethanie Mattek 6-4, 6-3.

Top-seeded Venus Williams was eliminated in the opening round.
