BOSTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Tim Thomas needed 22 saves to log his sixth career shutout Tuesday when the Boston Bruins posted a 4-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

Zdeno Chara scored two goals and David Krejci and Shawn Thornton also scored for Boston.

The Bruins won their fourth straight game and moved within six standings points of Ottawa, which leads the Northeast Division with 78 points.

Martin Gerber allowed three goals on 28 shots for Ottawa.

The Senators, who led the Eastern Conference for most of the season but have struggled of late, added some depth up front prior to Tuesday's trade deadline with the acquisition of veteran forward Martin Lapointe from the Chicago Blackhawks.
