BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Top-seeded David Nalbandian was an easy 6-1 6-2 semifinal winner against Juan Ignacio Chela Saturday at the Copa Telmex tennis tournament in Buenos Aires.
Nalbandian, No. 11 in the latest rankings on the men's tour and a native of Buenos Aires, advanced to the finals of his hometown event for the time in his career.
He lost only nine points on serve and converted four of five break point chances.
His opponent in Sunday's final will be another fellow Argentine, Jose Acasuso, who pounded out a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory against Italy's Filippo Volandri.
Acasuso will play in the Buenos Aires title match for a third time after increasing his lifetime ATP singles semifinal record to 10-6 -- all on clay courts.
Sunday's Acasuso-Nalbandian winner pockets $74,000.
