KAPOLEI, Hawaii, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Jeong Jang equaled the course record with an 8-under 64 Thursday, giving her the first-round lead of the Fields Open in Hawaii.

Lorena Ochoa had established the course record at the Ko Olina Golf Club two years ago.

Paula Creamer was alone in second place with a 66 and Kelli Kuehne and Angela Stanford shared third place at 67. Kuehne led after the opening round in last week's LPGA Tour season opener.

Michelle Wie, making her 2008 debut after a miserable 2007 season, shot a 69 and was tied for 16th. She did not break 70 in any round last year.

"It just felt a lot better out there," Wie said. "I felt like I accomplished my goal of staying in the present. I just thought about each shot and every good shot, put it in my memory bank and gained confidence."

Annika Sorenstam, who won last week for the first time in 17 months, shot an opening-round 70.
