Blake eases past Warburg at SAP Open

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Second-seed James Blake had little trouble dispatching Sam Warburg Tuesday, taking a 6-3, 6-1 victory in a first-round match of the SAP Open in California.

Sam Querey, the seventh seed, was not so fortunate, however, losing 4-7, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 to Denis Gremelmayr.

In other first-round action of the $436,000 event, Mardy Fish defeated Tim Smyczek 6-3, 6-4; Benjamin Becker defeated Marcos Daniel, who retired trailing 6-3, 3-0; and Robby Ginepri defeated Jesse Witten 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

Yen-Hsun Lu led Max Mirnyi 7-6 (7-4), 3-4 in a late match.

The winner of this San Jose event will take home $68,800.
