NHL: N.Y. Islanders 3, San Jose 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Freddy Meyer scored the winning goal midway through the third period Monday when the New York Islanders defeated the San Jose Sharks, 3-2.

The Islanders scored three unanswered goals to win their fourth straight game. Rick DiPietro blocked 28 of 30 shots for the Islanders.

Andy Hilbert added a goal and an assist and Mike Comrie also scored for the Islanders. Bill Guerin had two assists.

Marcel Goc and Joe Thornton scored the goals for San Jose, which has lost four games in a row.

Evgeni Nabokov made 17 saves in defeat, but had to leave the game midway through the second period with a laceration of the nose and mouth. He did return for the third period.
