Ed Jovanovski had a goal and two assists and Ilja Bryzgalov stopped 22 shots for the Coyotes, who have won two straight games following a four-game losing streak.
Dustin Brown, Raitis Ivanans and Alexander Frolov scored for the Kings, who have won four of their last seven games.
Dan Cloutier -- who was playing despite having flu-like symptoms -- allowed three goals on 21 shots before being pulled for Jason LaBarbera, who allowed one goal on 16 shots.
Phoenix was up 3-1 after two periods, but the Kings tied the game in the third on goals by Brown and Frolov.
The Coyotes had a 5-3 power-play advantage when Michael Cammalleri and Jaroslav Modry were sent to the penalty box -- and Vrbata scored what turned out to be the game-winner.
