NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard was a showstopper Saturday night when he won the dunk contest at the NBA all-star festivities in New Orleans.
The third-year pro used his 6-foot-11 inch, 265-pound frame to dazzle onlookers and total a perfect 100 for his two first round dunks -- one of which featured him soaring to the hoop in a Superman cape.
Later, he unleashed two previously unseen slams to unseat 2007 champion Gerald Green of Boston in the final round.
Howard's cape-clad Superman slam and Green's "birthday cake dunk" were the highlights of the first round.
Toronto forward Jason Kapono defended his three-point shootout championship by overcoming challenges by Cleveland guard Daniel Gibson and 2006 champ, forward Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas, in the final round.
He finished with a final-round score of 25, which equaled Chicago's Craig Hodges' total in 1986.
Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams won the skills competition.
