NHL: New Jersey 3, Ottawa 2

OTTAWA, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Right wing Arron Asham scored the game's first two goals Saturday when the New Jersey Devils downed the Ottawa Senators 3-2.

Asham's fifth goal of the season came at 9:05 of the first period. He then scored his sixth at 3:10 of the second.

Zach Parise scored his 22nd goal (power play) at 7:44 of the second to give New Jersey what turned out to be an insurmountable 3-0 advantage.

Paul Martin had two assists and Martin Brodeur turned away 37 of 39 shots for the Devils, who assumed the lead in the Atlantic Division with the third win in their last four games.

The Senators, who lead the Northeast Division, got goals from Jason Spezza (24th) in the second and Chris Kelly (10th) in the third.

Ray Emery yielded three goals on 29 shots for the Senators, who have lost three in a row and two straight to the Devils.
