LOS ANGELES, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Patrick O'Sullivan's shorthanded goal early in the second period highlighted a Los Angeles onslaught Friday night that carried the Kings past Calgary 6-3.
The Kings, in a bid to avoid owning the worst record in the NHL this season, won for the fifth time in eight games. Their 53 points still leaves them two behind Toronto for the fewest in the league.
Los Angeles scored three goals in each of the first two periods and got 39 saves from Jason LaBarbera.
Six different players scored for the Kings, but it was O'Sullivan's slapshot with Los Angeles down a man that keyed the offense.
That goal gave Los Angeles a 4-2 lead and Derek Armstrong boosted the advantage less than three minutes later. Anze Kopitar scored a power-play goal just past the midway point of the second period to make it 6-2.
All six goals came against Miikka Kiprusoff.
Calgary had beaten the Kings in their previous six meetings.
