
CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Tyler Hansbrough led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds Saturday when fifth-ranked North Carolina buried Virginia Tech 92-53.
The winners opened with a 10-3 run and led 43-23 by halftime. They poured it on in the second with a 49-30 scoring advantage. UNC's biggest lead was 82-42 with 6:00 left.
Wayne Ellington had 19 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Danny Green had 12 points and seven rebounds. Alex Stepheson had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Will Graves scored 10 for the Tar Heels (24-2, 9-2 ACC), who have won three in a row.
It was their fourth straight game without star point guard Ty Lawson (sprained ankle).
Malcolm Delaney scored 20 points and was the lone player in double figures for the losers. Virginia Tech's leading scorer, guard A.D. Vassallo, scored only eight points as the Hokies (14-11, 5-6), shot just 25.9 percent from the field in their third straight loss.
