ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Rod Smith, the Denver Broncos team record holder in receptions, yards and touchdowns, was placed on the reserve-retired list, effectively ending his career.
Smith, 37, missed all of last season following hip surgery. After he underwent a second procedure in January, he and the team agreed on the roster move.
Smith was selected to Pro Bowls after the 2000, 2001 and 2005 seasons. He was also a part of the Broncos two Super Bowl titles.
He joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Southern in 1994. He set a team record with 849 receptions --12th on the all-time NFL reception list -- for 11,389 yards and 68 touchdowns over 183 games. The receptions, yardage total and touchdown are NFL records for an undrafted player.
