INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Indiana University men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson is in hot water for making improper telephone calls to potential recruits.
He was cited for similar violations when he held a similar post at Oklahoma. In his second season at the Big Ten school, he faces five more major NCAA violations.
ESPN reported late Thursday that Sampson's status in Bloomington will be determined on a game-to-game basis, while the Indianapolis Star reported that, through Athletic Director Rick Greenspan, the school will outline the plan for Sampson at a news conference on Friday.
School President Michael McRobbie wants recommendations on how to handle the situation within a matter of days, the report said.
"Did he basically just go right on doing what he was doing?" asked Oklahoma law professor David Swank. "That could suggest a penalty that is very severe."
"The allegations that I knowingly acted contrary to the sanctions imposed on me for violations that occurred while I was at Oklahoma are not true," Sampson said in a statement.
