KAHUKU, Hawaii, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Kelli Kuehne, whose once-promising career has not produced results in recent years, grabbed the lead Thursday at the SBS Open in Hawaii.
Kuehne, a two-time U.S. Amateur champion, has only one victory in her 10-year tenure on the LPGA Tour. She regained her playing card for this season at the circuit's qualifying tournament.
She shot a bogey-free, 5-under 67 at the Turtle Bay Palmer Course to take a one-shot lead over Jacqueline Yang. Those at 3-under 69 included Christie Kerr, Sherri Steinhauer and Wendy Ward.
Meg Mallon, Paula Creamer, Laura Diaz and Annika Sorenstam were among those at 70. Lorena Ochoa, who dominated the tour last year with eight victories, did not enter this event.
