ANTWERP, Belgium, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Daniela Hantuchova and Patty Schnyder, the third and fourth seeds, won first-round matches Wednesday at the Diamond Games tennis tournament in Antwerp, Belgium.
The Slovakian Hantuchova, a semifinalist at the Australian Open in January, was a 6-4, 6-3 against Belgian wild card Yanina Wickmayer and Schnyder, a native of Basel, Switzerland, topped Japan's Ai Sugiyama 6-3, 6-4.
Elsewhere as the tournament's first round concluded, No. 9 Na Li of China ousted Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova 6-4, 6-3; Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko beat countrywoman Tatiana Perebiynis 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 and Swiss qualifier Timea Bacsinszky beat Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Among Thursday's second-round matches are world No. 1 Justine Henin of Belgium against Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova; and No. 2 seed Anna Chakvetadze of Russia against unseeded Swede Sofia Arvidsson.
The tournament's eventual champion will earn $95,500.
