MARSEILLES, France, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic Wednesday trounced qualifier Ivan Dodig, 6-1, 6-4 in the second round of the Open 13 tennis tournament in Marseilles, France.
The Serbian was playing his first match since he retired in the second set Sunday in his Davis Cup match against Russia's Nikolay Davydenko because of exhaustion and flu-like symptoms.
In other results, second-seeded Richard Gasquet of France topped Italy's Simone Bolelli 6-3, 6-3; Croatian wild card Mario Ancic beat 7th-seeded Lemans, France native and surprise Australian Open runner-up Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5, 7-6 (7-3); No. 3 seed Mikhail Youzhny of Russia beat Croat Marin Cilic 6-4, 7-6 (7-3); French wild card Michael Llodra downed Italian Andreas Seppi 6-2, 7-6 (7-5); and 6-foot-10 inch Croat Ivo Karlovic ousted Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
In the day's lone second-round match, Nicolas Mahut continued a very good day for Frenchmen by beating fifth-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
