Top-seeded Italian wins Chile opener

VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta was an easy opening-round winner Tuesday at the inaugural Cachantun Cup, beating Hungarian Greta Arn 6-2, 6-2.

Three other seeds reached the round of 16. No. 5 Martina Muller of Germany beat Chilean wild card Karina Andrea Koch Benvenuto, 6-4, 6-1; No. 6 Italian Sara Errani beat French qualifier Olivia Sanchez 1-6, 6-2, 6-1; and No. 7 Estonian Kaia Kanepi beat Russian Evgeniya Rodina 6-3, 6-4.

Also, Croat Jelena Kostanic Tosic beat American Bethanie Mattek 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3).
