SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- T.J. Hensick put Colorado in front with a power-play goal in the second period Wednesday en route to a 3-1 victory over San Jose.
Hensick, who had two goals in an overtime loss to Phoenix on Monday, tipped in a shot by Brett Clark with 7:09 to play in the second for a 2-1 lead.
The Avalanche protected the advantage until Jeff Finger scored into an empty net with one second remaining.
Ben Guite scored Colorado's first goal and Jose Theodore made 30 saves.
San Jose's goal came from Patrick Marleau 5:53 deep into the second period that briefly tied the game.
The Sharks, who remained four points behind Dallas in the Pacific Division, had a three-game home winning streak snapped. It was the second game in the Sharks' season-long, six-game homestand.
