CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- University of Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams collected his 600th career victory Wednesday when the Terps beat his former team, Boston College, 70-65.
UM won the contest by making 6-of-11 three-pointers which led to a slim 36-34 halftime lead and followed with a 60.9 shooting percentage in the second half for their third straight win and fifth in their last six games overall.
The contest featured 10 lead changes.
"They said they were happy," Williams jokingly told the Baltimore Sun about the Chestnut Hill crowd following the victory. "I take them at their word."
Williams' career record increased to 600-336 in the 19th season as the head coach at his alma mater.
He also has been the head coach at Ohio State (1982-86) and American University (1978-82).
