
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Jeremy Roenick scored the game-winner in a shootout Saturday and the San Jose Sharks topped the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2.
The contest went to overtime after Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith scored his sixth goal this season at 5:14 of the third period, creating a 2-2 tie.
There was no scoring in the overtime. Roenick struck in the fifth round of the shootout, after Evgeni Nabokov made four saves on five Chicago shots.
Chicago's Patrick Sharp scored in the first period, while San Jose got goals from Jonathan Cheechoo (power play) in the second and Marc Edouard Vlasic in the third.
Nabokov stopped 19 of 21 shots for the Sharks, who have won four of their last five games and rose to 3-0 against Chicago this season.
Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 38 of 40 shots in regulation but allowed Roenick's game-winner.
The loss was the Blackhawks' fourth in a row.
