
MONTREAL, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Alex Kovalev and Mark Streit both had a goal and an assist Saturday to carry the Montreal Canadiens past the New York Islanders 4-1.
Streit's eighth goal this season came on the power play at the 7:32 mark of the second period, breaking a 1-1 deadlock and giving Montreal the lead for good.
Kovalev assisted on Thomas Plekanec's 17th, which was shorthanded and came just 37 seconds into the second period.
Both Streit and Andrei Markov assisted on the game's final goal by Mathieu Dandenault at 17:21 of the third.
Markov had two assists, while Christobal Huet stopped 29 of 30 shots for the Canadiens, who have won four of their last five games.
They rose to 3-0 against the Islanders this season.
New York's goal was scored by Blake Comeau at 5:01 of the second.
Rick DiPietro was beaten four times on 32 shots. He did make several key stops when the contest was within reach for the Islanders, who have lost four straight.
