Perjury charge for ex-Canadien Lafleur

MONTREAL, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- NHL Hall of Fame member Guy Lafleur has been charged with perjury in Montreal related to testimony about his son's bail conditions, his lawyer said.

Lafleur, 56, testified last fall his 23-year-old son Mark had strictly followed the court-ordered conditions that permitted the younger Lafleur to stay at his parents' house, a Toronto Star correspondent reported.

The younger Lafleur is charged with 21 offenses dating to 2004 that include forcible confinement, sexual assault and drug trafficking.

Police issued an arrest warrant for the former Montreal Canadien after an ex-girlfriend of his son said he had twice driven his son to a motel for overnight stays with her, the report said.

Lafleur's lawyer, Jean-Pierre Rancourt, called the warrant "an exaggeration" but said Lafleur would surrender to authorities on Friday, the report said.
