Acasuso starts with a win

VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Jose Acasuso scored an opening-round win Monday in the Movistar Open in Chile, knocking off Aussie Peter Luczak.

Acasuso, the seventh seed and a winner of this $462,000 event, dispatched Luczak 6-2, 6-4.

Meanwhile, former French Open runner-up Guillermo Coria fell to Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. It was Coria's first ATP match since August 2006. He has been battling shoulder problems.

In other action, Argentinean Sergio Roitman defeated two-time runner-up and Chilean countryman Nicolas Massu 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, while Argentine Juan Pablo Brzezicki defeated No. 6 seed Oscar Hernandez of Spain 7-6, (7-4), 6-1, Diego Hartfield defeated fellow Argentine Mariano Zabaleto 6-3, 7-5, and third-seeded Juan Monaco defeated Nicolas Lapentti 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

This week's top seed, Fernando Gonzalez, will meet fellow Chilean Paul Capdeville Tuesday.
