Cleveland's Varejao has sprained ankle

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Cleveland Cavaliers forward/center Anderson Varejao underwent an MRI on his sprained left ankle Monday and found no additional injury.

Varejao sprained the ankle during Sunday's 98-95 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Varejao, who was running the floor with LeBron James handling the ball, stepped on the Lakers' Sasha Vujacic's foot and rolled his left ankle with 3:12 left in the third quarter. He stayed on the floor near the Cavaliers' foul line for several minutes before being helped to the locker room without putting any weight on the ankle.

X-rays were negative. Varejao will continue to receive treatments in Los Angeles before traveling to Cleveland Tuesday. No timetable had been established for his return to action.

Varejao is averaging 7.8 points and 8.5 rebounds in 22 games for the Cavaliers this season.
