NEW YORK, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson, who set a franchise record with seven points in a game, was selected the top NHL player of the week, the league said Monday.

The NHL picks three "stars" of the week each Monday. Joining Alfredsson in taking the honors for the week of Jan.21-27 were Washington left wing Alex Ovechkin and Columbus goaltender Pascal Leclaire.

Alfredsson had three goals and four assists in the Senators' 8-4 victory Thursday over Tampa Bay. That effort, the first seven-point NHL game in five years, gave Alfredsson an NHL-leading 67 points on the season.

Ovechkin had six points -- three goals and three assists -- over three games for Washington. He had 39 goals this season, which leads the NHL. The Capitols, overcoming a slow start, used two wins in those three games to pulls within 1 point of division-leading Carolina.

Leclaire won both his games last week, posting a 1.00 goals-against average and a .968 save percentage. He capped the week with his league-leading eighth shutout of the season in a 1-0 win at Chicago.
