SAN DIEGO, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- San Diego Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers was recuperating Thursday after a second surgery on his torn right knee ligament.

The procedure was performed Wednesday by team physician Dr. David Chao, the San Diego Tribune reported.

Rivers, who was resting at home, is expected to undergo an aggressive 4-6 month rehabilitation program, the newspaper said.

On Monday, he revealed that he played in last Sunday's 21-12 loss to New England in the AFC Championship game with a fully-torn knee ligament which required arthroscopic surgery.

Despite his doubtful status, the four-year veteran played the entire game completing 19 of 37 passes for 211 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

He said he hopes to be ready for training camp next July.

"I'm not going to do anything miraculous but I'm going to get after it, and I like to think I'm a fast healer," Rivers told the Tribune.
