SEATTLE, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Chuck Hayes blocked a layup attempt by Kevin Durant with two seconds left Wednesday, preserving Houston's 109-107 win over Seattle.
The Rockets rallied from a 17-point deficit with eight minutes remaining to hand the SuperSonics their 12th straight loss.
Seattle had a 100-83 advantage before collapsing down the stretch.
Houston's Rafer Alston hit a three-pointer with 21 seconds left, giving Houston a 109-105 lead. Durant made a layup with 16 seconds to go to get the Sonics within two, after which Houston's Tracy McGrady missed two free throw tries.
Durant drove into the lane in a bid to tie the game, but Hayes rejected the attempt. Durant chased down the loose ball and missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer.
McGrady led Houston with 28 points and Yao Ming had 26. Durant finished with 25.
The Rockets have won three straight and eight of their last 10.
