Congress postpones Clemens' appearance

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Pitcher Roger Clemens' appearance before a U.S. House panel looking into illicit doping in Major League Baseball has been delayed until Feb. 5.

The postponement was announced Thursday by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which released an updated schedule of depositions and interviews.

The seven-time Cy Young Award winner, who pitched for the New York Yankees last season, originally was to meet with the committee Saturday to give a deposition or transcribed interview ahead of scheduled congressional hearings Feb. 13.

Clemens is expected to refute allegations he used performance-enhancing drugs outlined in a recent report on doping in Major League Baseball from a panel headed by former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell of Maine.

Others likely to talk with the committee are former Yankees infielder Chuck Knoblauch, Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, former Clemens trainer Brian McNamee and one-time New York Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski.

The committee has delayed a Jan. 29 subpoena for Knoblauch and a date for Radomski to appear has never been set.
