Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Sam Young helped Pittsburgh to a quick start in both halves Wednesday, sending Pittsburgh cruising to an 81-57 win over St. John's.
The 17th-ranked Panthers jumped to an early 21-10 advantage and also enjoyed a 9-0 run in the opening minutes of the second half.
Young scored 26 points, while Ronald Ramon chipped in 16 for the Panthers (16-3, 4-2 Big East). Pittsburgh has won four of its last five and shot 54 percent against the Red Storm.
St. John's (7-10, 1-5) was led by a career-best 29 points from Anthony Mason, who made 12 of 17 shots from the floor.
Pittsburgh improved to 5-2 since starters Mike Cook and Levance Fields were injured. Cook is out for the remainder of the season and Fields is expected to miss two more weeks.
