Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Mike Sillinger scored two of New York's three short-handed goals Tuesday, propelling the Islanders to a 6-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Islanders tied a franchise record with the three short-handed goals, marking the third time the feat has been accomplished.
Carolina yielded three short-handed goals for the time since April 4, 1995.
Blake Comeau had a goal and an assist for the Islanders. Richard Park, Sean Bergenheim and Brendan Witt also scored for New York.
Wade Dubielewicz, making his first start since a 4-1 win over the Hurricanes on Dec. 31, finished with 44 saves.
Eric Staal, Mike Commodore and Matt Cullen had the goals for the Hurricanes, Cam Ward stopped 25 of 30 shots for Carolina.
