MONTREAL, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Jeff Taffe and Evgeni Malkin scored for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who beat Montreal 2-0 Saturday behind the standout goaltending of Dany Sabourin.

Taffe notched the first goal, angling in a shot 6:14 into the opening period. The Canadiens out-shot Pittsburgh 17-9 in the second period but could not get the puck past Sabourin, who blocked 31 shots in the game.

Malkin's goal was an empty-netter with 12.4 seconds to play.

The Penguins were without all-star Sidney Crosby, who is out indefinitely with an ankle injury.
