NEW YORK, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Bill Callahan, a former NFL head coach who was fired in November as Nebraska Cornhuskers coach, has joined the staff of the New York Jets.

Callahan was hired Friday as assistant head coach/offense.

The veteran coach was fired by Nebraska after a 5-7 season.

Callahan was coach of the Oakland Raiders for two years. In 2002, he led them to the Super Bowl, where they lost to Tampa Bay. Callahan was fired after Oakland finished 4-12 the following year.
