Jason Garrett stays with Cowboys

DALLAS, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who interviewed for a couple of NFL head coaching jobs, has decided to stay with the Cowboys.

"The last few days have been a very interesting experience for me and my wife," Garrett said at a news conference Thursday. "We told ourselves we wanted to go through the process and really fully investigate these opportunities. We got back to Dallas ... and came to a conclusion that, for a variety of reasons, this is the best place for us."

Garrett had interviews with the Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons.

"We did negotiate with Jason Garrett to become our head coach. In the end, he decided to stay in Dallas," a Ravens' statement said.

Garrett, a former Dallas backup quarterback, becomes assistant head coach in addition to his coordinator duties. He joined the Cowboys' staff prior to the 2007 season.
